
BEST 300 LEVEL MEDICAL STUDENT OF GOUNI CROWNED.
Miss Happiness Daberechi Nwobodo has emerged the best three hundred level students of the College of Medicine, Godfrey Okoye University Ugwuomu, Enugu State.
Daberechi beat fifty-three other pioneer students after the second MB Examination of the college to emerge victorious.
51 of the successful students are to move to the university’s Teaching Hospital at Trans-Ekulu, Enugu for their practical training as medical students, while three students are to repeat the session.
Addressing the students, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Reverend Father Professor Christian Anieke announced the university award of N300,000 and Vice-Chancellor’s prize of N200,000 to Miss Daberechi Happiness Nwobodo in appreciation of her commitment and excellence in academic.
Reverend Father Professor Anieke described the performance of the students as remarkable, stressing that the College had set the pace which he said, other faculties in the university should achieve and sustain.
“We have the best Accident and Emergency unit in our Teaching Hospital, the best in Enugu State” the Vice-Chancellor announced.
He promised that the medical students would be given the best training and ensure that they emerged excellent doctors on graduation.
“On completion of their programme, there will be no Examination they will not pass. The management will provide all they need to succeed.
Reverend Father Professor Anieke named one of the new hostels being built at the main campus of the university after the Provost of the college, Professor Frank Akpuaka while another building was named Deputy Provost, Professor Mrs. Miriam Unachukwu hostel.
Presenting the successful students, the Provost of the College of Medicine, Professor Frank Akpuaka, said that Daberechi Nwobodo had been consistent in performance since the pioneer students started their studies in the university.
Professor Akpuaka expressed gratitude to the management of the university and other professionals invited to help in the training of the medical students.
The Provost remarked that of all the four colleges of Medicine he had pioneered, iit was only Godfrey Okoye University Enugu that had celebrated him and his team for the success achieved.
“I have never been so close to my students as I have done in Godfrey Okoye University and I am happy that our efforts have been rewarded”, the Professor of Anatomy and Surgery stated.
In a comment, the Deputy Provost of the college, Professor Unachukwu said although she had building project in the main campus, she did not expect that she would be immortalised before the project was fully realised.
The Deputy Provost urged the students to sustain the success they had recorded and promised that she would not relent in training quality graduates for the institution.
She said that the National universities Commission, Nigeria Medical Association and the External examiners were all happy with the efforts of the management to build a formidable College of Medicine, adding that the officials described the main campus as conducive for teaching and learning.
Professor Mrs. Unachukwu noted that the serene environment of the main campus impacted on the students and fast tracked their success.
In a reaction, the best students, Daberechi Nwobodo attributed her success to her trust in God and enjoined other students to make prayers and commitment to their studies, as well as obedience and service to God their priority.
