Enugu: Governor’s wife inaugurates board for social protection and welfare shelters for the state
The Enugu first lady, Mrs Nkechinyere Mbah has inaugurated a new board for Social Protection and Welfare Shelters for Enugu State aimed at ensuring standards, promoting sanity, reforming and rehabilitating both the public and private Orphanage homes in the state.
Correspondent Jude Ezike reports that Mrs Mbah who Performed the function expressed satisfaction with the calibre of persons selected as board members and tasked them to be diligent and committed.
The board made up of seven members is chaired by the Vice Chancellor Godfrey Okoye University, Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke.
Mrs. Mbah noted that the aim of the board is to oversee the activities of the homes and bring them to an enviable standard.
The Enugu governor’s wife described as embarrassing the pitiable state of the various Orphanage homes in the state, and vowed to ensure that the children in those homes receive proper care and treatment.
She decried the unfortunate, unwarranted and unwholesome activities of caregivers in those homes.
Speaking on behalf of other members of the board, the chairman, Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke, who expressed profound gratitude for the appointment, promised that the board would not fail.
He noted that members of the board selected were not based on political sentiments but based on her Excellency’s commitment to the success of the project.
