Enugu State Commissioner Declares Development of Godfrey Okoye University Main Campus a Collective Responsibility

Dr. Felix Nnamani, the Enugu State Commissioner for Water Resources, has emphasized that the development of the main campus of Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, is a collective responsibility. This statement was made while addressing the university’s medical students, following the recent accreditation of the College of Medicine, which allows students to take their second MB examinations just two years after the college’s establishment.

Dr. Nnamani, a former President General of the Ugwuomu Nike Community, assured that local residents would continue to ensure the effective security of life and property at the institution. He advised the students to avoid distractions, highlighting the serene and conducive environment provided by the main campus and the university.

The Vice-Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University, Reverend Father Professor Christian Anieke, attributed this significant achievement to the hard work and dedication of the college’s Provost, Professor Frank Akpuaka, the Deputy Provost, Professor Miriam Unachukwu, and the entire staff of the College of Medicine. He promised ongoing support from the university management to help the college achieve even greater successes.

In his speech, Professor Akpuaka expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor for fulfilling 90% of the college’s requirements. Deputy Provost Professor Unachukwu commended the Vice-Chancellor and Provost for their sacrifices and described the students as “heroes in the making.”

Additionally, Professor A.U. Katchy, Dean of the Faculty of Basic Medicine, affirmed that the college is ready for its next accreditation in February 2025 and urged students to remain dedicated to their studies.

Correspondent Godwin Umeh reports that the event celebrated the accreditation of the college for the 2nd MB examinations for the medical students.
