Former NBC DG, Prof. Idachaba Calls for Value-Instilling and Society-Building Content Creation

A Professor of Mass Communication and former Director General of the National Broadcasting Commission, Professor Armstrong Idachaba encouraged media to ensure that their contents serve the interest of the masses and avoid the spread of falsehood.
Professor Idachaba gave the advice at the 8th Inaugural lecture of Godfrey Okoye University Enugu, where he delivered the inaugural lecture with the theme, Mediated Convergences, Cosmo-philosophical Ideologies and the Building of a Modern Nigeria.
The 8th Inaugural lecture which was organized on collaboration with the Mass Communication Department, under the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences had professors and notable personalities, especially in the media space presence.
Prof. Idachaba noted that the impact of technology had made virtually every person a media practitioner with little regards to the quality of content and stressed the need for policy makers to pay greater attention to media convergence and activities of the social media.
In an address, the Vice Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University, Rev. Fr. Professor Christian Anieke who commended Prof. Idachaba for contributing greatly to the growth of the media industry and mass communication listed the score card of the university, which included the setting up of the DNA Learning Center, the first in West Africa; the university’s European Park, with over 20 European companies; the skill center which trains students in practical entrepreneurial skills; GOUNI Radio 106.9fm which won the best campus radio in Nigeria and lots more.
In a remark, the chairman of the Inaugural Lecture Committee, Professor Romanus Egudu expressed gratitude to those that made the event a success.
Also in a comment, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Sister Prof. MarySylvia Nwachukwu described the event as an academic banquet and commended the Vice Chancellor for encouraging the staff of the university to achieve academic excellence.
Notable among dignitaries present at the event was Professor Stella Okunna, renowned professor of Mass Communication, some traditional rulers from Igala, Kogis Stake, friends and family of Professor Idachaba.
Godfery Okoye University continues to grow, changing the narrative of education in the South east and beyond.
