Godfrey Okoye University Approves New Procedures for the 2020/2021 Session in the First Virtual Meeting of Parents Forum

Godfrey Okoye University Enugu has announced new procedures for its academic activities in the 2020/2021 session.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Reverend Father Professor Christian Anieke said during a Parents’ Forum Zoom meeting of the university that students in each level of study will spend a month on campus for their practical while the remaining part of their studies would be done online.

Reverend Father Professor Anieke reminded the forum that the first virtual meeting of parents is the beginning of the new normal in the COVID world.

The Vice Chancellor recounted the achievements of the 10th anniversary of the university, stressing that the event would remain an unforgettable experience, as arrangements have been concluded for the take off of the university’s European Business park.

Reverend Father Anieke said that the university has established online collaborations with its foreign partners for academic activities.

The Vice Chancellor said “400 level students will return to campus on the 5th of October and depart on the 6th of November, 2020.  The 100 level students will be on campus from 9th November to 19th December, 2020 as the university observes its Christmas Break”.

“As the university resumes after the Christmas break on the 3rd of January, 2021, the 300 students are expected to back the same day for their practical and leave the campus on the 30th of January 2021 while the 200 level students will take their turn on the 1st of February, 2021 and leave for vacation in March to continue their lectures online Professor Anieke stated.

In keeping with the guidelines of the NCDC, Reverend Father Anieke noted that the students will stay one person per room while the rooms would be fumigated after each set departs.

In a comment, the Director of Academic Planning and Services, Sister Professor Nwachukwu said orientation would be organised for the students on the new procedures, stressing that arrangements have been made for a special food center for the students.

Sister Professor Nwachukwu said that verification of students would start next week while allocation of rooms will start on Wednesday next week.

The Acting Director ICT, Mr. Chinedu Chibuzor also stated that students would get their log-in details as soon as they pay the necessary fees pointing out that a Help Desk has been created to provide ready information to students.

The foreign Liaison Officer of the university, Meggy Kantert, said the university is working on new cooperation with more foreign partners from next year.

The Librarian of the University, Mrs. Allen Chijioke commended the Vice Chancellor for the provision of reliable online library services for students.

In a comment, the Registrar of the University, Dr. Nnamdi N.S. Ene said all administrative activities of the university have been automated.

The meeting had in attendance over fifty parents, the Foreign Liaison Officer of the university, Meggy Kantert from Germany, Deans and principal officers of the institution.

Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu Reverend Father Professor Christian Anieke has proposed the teaching of Research Methodology from two hundred levels in tertiary institutions.

Reverend Father Professor Anieke, who made the suggestion while declaring open a workshop on Research Methodology for lecturers in the Faculty of Education of the university, said early teaching and conduct of research would make the students proficient in the course.

“Students should remember that their project is the summary of their academic performance in their institutions”. Similarly, “supervisors of projects should bear in mind that their image is at stake as they supervise student’s research; you should not present students that are not grounded in their areas of study for defence of their projects”.

In a comment, the Dean of the faculty, Dr. Mrs. Vero Mogboh said that the workshop was to keep the project supervisors abreast of the latest techniques in research methodology.

The lead speaker during the workshop and a Senior lecturer in the university, Reverend Brother Doctor Gregory Osuji highlighted lack of commitment, finance and technical knowhow as the major problems affecting research in education.

The workshop had four speakers and was attended by Professors, Heads of departments and Senior lecturers in the faculty of Education, Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu.
