Godfrey Okoye University Enugu Expands Academic Horizons with New Faculty and Programmes
Godfrey Okoye University Enugu is preparing to unveil a range of new academic programmes and upgraded facilities for the 2025–2026 academic year. Among the most anticipated changes are the introduction of Pharmacy and Medical Laboratory Science departments, which will broaden the institution’s healthcare education offerings.
In an address delivered by the Vice Chancellor, Reverend Father Professor Christian Anieke, exciting developments were announced. One major upgrade is the reformation of the Computer Science department into the Faculty of Computing, a forward-thinking shift to accommodate the needs of the digital age. The new faculty will conduct all teaching through smart boards and computer-based instruction, with courses now encompassing fields like Software Engineering, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, and other cutting-edge specializations.
Additionally, the College of Medicine at Godfrey Okoye University continues to progress with its first batch of students set to take their 2nd MB examinations in March 2025. The college has made strides since its inception, becoming one of the few institutions to secure approval for both the 1st and 2nd MB examinations in such a short timeframe. Following their exams, students will transition to the university’s Teaching Hospital in Enugu, which is equipped with a new Accident and Emergency Department, enhancing practical medical training.
This year’s academic session, titled the “Cross Over Year,” is emblematic of the university’s ambitious vision, targeting an enrollment of 1,000 new undergraduates and 350 postgraduates. In line with this growth, the university will be reviewing programme viability to prioritize high-performing courses.
A notable highlight of the session was the university’s mentorship partnership with Lux Mundi University, Umuahia. Professor Gabriel Okenwa, Proprietor of Lux Mundi, expressed gratitude for the mentoring relationship, which he believes will accelerate their institution’s growth. In a testament to this collaboration, both universities signed a Memorandum of Understanding, formalizing an academic exchange and partnership programme to foster growth and development.
With these innovations and partnerships, Godfrey Okoye University continues to set a high standard for academic excellence in Nigeria. The institution invites prospective students and academic partners to join this journey of growth, technology integration, and scholastic achievement.
