Godfrey Okoye University Holds 8th And 9th Convocation Ceremonies

Activities marking the 8th and 9th Convocation Ceremonies of Godfrey Okoye University Enugu started on the 14th of November 2021 with an opening Holy Mass at the Omnium Sanctorium Chaplaincy, Thinkers Corner Enugu.
The one week long event will end on the 21st of November, 2021 with a thanksgiving closing Mass.

Friday, 19 November 2021: Convocation Lecture

Saturday, 20 November 2021: Convocation Ceremonies for the Award of Degrees, Honorary Degrees and Prizes

On Tuesday, 16th November 2021, at the World Press Briefing at the Ugwuomu-Nike Main Campus of the University, the Vice Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University, Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke gave the narrative of the growth of the university which included completing the 2019/2020 academic year online at the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic when all educational activity was halted worldwide. A noted that the university could not have achieved all these without God as the university is awash with the blessings of God.
Another feat worthy of note is the European Business which the ground breaking will take effect on 18th November, 2021 at the Ugwuomu-Nike Main Campus of the University. The European Business Park will house over 50 European owned business with 10 already invested. The Vice Chancellor noted that the university gave the European Business park over 270 hectares of land with access roads, already provided 24 hours electricity, 5 boreholes of water supply, 24hrs internet access etc.
The Business Park when completed will employ over 2500 youths, creating job employment for residents of Enugu and generating revenue for the state government. He called on the state government to give free trade zone access to the European Business Park.

Today, 17th November 2021, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Sister Professor Dr. MarySylvia Nwachukwu. will deliver the inaugural lecture for the 8th and 9th Convocation of Godfrey Okoye University.
A brief intro on The Inaugural Lecturer: Sr. Prof. MarySylvia Nwachukwu
Sr. Prof. MarySylvia Nwachukwu hails from Umunumo in Ehime-Mbano LGA of Imo State and belongs to the religious family of the Daughters of Divine Love Congregation serving as the Regional Superior of the Italian Region (1999 – 2002), Second Assistant to the Mother General and Councilor in charge of Formation (2000 – 2016) among other positions.
Sr. Prof. Dr. MarySylvia Nwachukwu has B.A. Philosophy from the Pontifical Urban University, Rome (1989); B.A. Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome (1992); Diploma, Biblical Archaeology and Jewish Studies from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (1994); Masters and Licentiate in Sacred Scripture from the Pontifical Biblical Institute, Rome (1996) and Ph.D. Biblical Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome (2002).
In 2002, she started her teaching career in theology and scripture at the Spiritan International School of Theology, Attakwu (2002-2015), where she also served as the Registrar of the School from 2006 to 2009.
Since 2003, she has been part-time Lecturer at Bigard Memorial Seminary Enugu.
In 2016, Sr. Prof. Nwachukwu came into Godfrey Okoye University Enugu and served as Principal Assistant Registrar (Admissions), Director of Academic Planning and Services, Coordinator of Certificate Programmes, Member of Senate, Member of the Governing Council, Member of Senate Committees and Deputy Vice Chancellor.

Sr. Prof. Dr. MarySylvia Nwachukwu is a national and international member of Catholic Theological Association of Nigeria, Catholic Biblical Association of Nigeria, Association of Theologians in Africa, Pan African Association of Catholic Exegetes and Society of Biblical Literature.
She has published 2 Monographs, 4 Book Chapters, 14 Journal Publications, 25 Conference Papers, 11 Edited Works, editor of African Journal of Contextual Theology (2009-2015) and many creative works and has attended 33 national and international conferences
On 20th October 2021, Sr. Prof. Dr. MarySylvia Nwachukwu was nominated by the Vatican as member of a Theology Research Project “Doing Theology from the Peripheries”.
