GOU TO INTRODUCE PHARMACY AND MEDICAL LABORATORY AS IT UPGRADES COMPUTER SCIENCE TO A FACULTY

Godfrey Okoye University Enugu is to introduce Pharmacy and Medical Laboratory into it academic programmes in the 2025-2026 academic year.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Reverend Father Professor Christian Anieke revealed this while addressing the management of a new university located in Umuahia, Abia State, Lux Mundi University who paid a visit to the university as well as academic and senior administrative staff of Godfrey Okoye University Enugu.

Reverend Father Professor Anieke announced that the Computer Science department has been upgraded to a Faculty of Computing, stressing that teaching and learning in the faculty would only be done through the use of smart boards and computers

The new faculty is offer courses in: Computer science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Artificial intelligence, CyberSecurity amongst others.

He announced that students of Godfrey Okoye University College of Medicine would take their second MB examinations in March 2025, indicating that the pioneer students of the college would graduate in record time.

“The Godfrey university College of Medicine is the first to get approval to conduct 1st and 2nd MB examinations for its students within few years of existence. The pioneer students will move to the University’s Teaching Hospital in Enugu after the 2nd MB examinations. A befitting Accident and Emergency Department is already being put in place for the hospital “, Reverend Father Professor Anieke assured.

The Vice-Chancellor who outlined his vision and mission for the university in the 2024-2025 academic session, tagged “Cross Over Year “ said the institution expects to have a minimum of 1,000 new students while the postgraduates should be about 350.

He made it clear that unperforming programmes would be closed while those making progress would be encouraged, pointing out that all courses offered by the University have been fully accredited.

Reverend Father Professor Anieke revealed that most offices and departments of the university now run on solar energy, adding that the alumni of the institution were fully involved in the activities of the university.

Speaking on the Mentorship of a new university in Umuahia, Abia State, Lux Mundi University, Reverend Father Professor Anieke explained that the trust was based on the excellent performance of Godfrey Okoye University Enugu.

The Vice-Chancellor stated that the mentee of GO university would be incorporated in the exchange and partnership programmes of Gouni and foreign institutions.

Reacting, the Proprietor of Lux Mundi University, Umuahia, Professor Gabriel Okenwa who traced the genesis of the institution expressed profound gratitude to the management of Godfrey Okoye University Enugu for approving the Mentorship request.

Professor Okenwa who said the university started with two faculties and a school of Nursing, was optimistic that the relationship with Godfrey Okoye University would fast-track the growth of Lux Mundi University, Umuahia.

The two institutions signed a memorandum of understanding as all the principal officers and other top management team of the two universities were present during the meeting.

Godfrey Okoye University Radio 106.9 FM launched in 2014 as a campus radio station and began operation on the 21st of October, 2015 through the effort of our formidable Vice Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Dr. Christian Anieke supported by the Senate of the University to serve as a broadcast medium to inform, educate, entertain and enlighten the host community and the general public.
