Transformative Initiatives at Godfrey Okoye University Herald a New Era in Education

In a bold stride towards innovation in higher education, Godfrey Okoye University under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Reverend Father Professor Christian Anieke has launched groundbreaking initiatives aimed at equipping students with practical skills essential for the modern workforce.

The university recently celebrated the inaugural cohort of the 2024 Skills Acquisition Programme (SAP) and Skills Acquisition Month (SAM) with a ceremony honoring students who completed the rigorous training. Developed in collaboration with the West Africa Broadcast Media Academy (WABMA), these programs are designed to nurture entrepreneurial spirit among students from their freshman year to their final academic stretch.

“We are committed to preparing our graduates not just for jobs but to create jobs,” emphasized Mr. Christopher Chidiebere Uwakwe, Director of Entrepreneurship at Godfrey Okoye University. Under his dynamic leadership, the university has seen an influx of partnership applications for its GO Startup Incubation Centre, supporting student-led businesses and employment ventures.

An exciting addition to the university’s academic arsenal is the technopreneurship programme from the Department of Computer Science, aiming to foster a generation of tech-savvy innovators poised to make significant strides in the digital economy.

Further bolstering their commitment to excellence, Dr. Ike Okere of WABMA announced scholarships for 10 university staff members, reinforcing the strong partnership between the institutions. “These collaborations are pivotal in expanding our influence beyond Nigeria, reaching students in Kenya and South Africa,” Mr. Uwakwe added.

Acknowledging the pivotal role of faculty support, Pro-Chancellor Prof. Christian Nwachukwu Okeke highlighted ongoing efforts to safeguard patents developed by student entrepreneurs, particularly through the Faculty of Law.

The event, graced by Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration Professor Gozie Ogbodo, Registrar Dr. Nnamdi N.S Ene, and other distinguished guests, underscored the university’s commitment to setting new standards in education and empowering the next generation of leaders and innovators.

Godfrey Okoye University continues to pioneer transformative initiatives that redefine the landscape of higher education, setting a benchmark for institutions across Africa and beyond.
