UNIZIK LAW CLASS OF 1989 ENDOWS CHAIR FOR PROFESSOR CHRISTIAN OKEKE

The Nnamdi Azikiwe University Law graduates, class of 1989 say they will support endowment of Chair in honour of the founding Dean of the Faculty of Law,  Enugu State University of Science and Technology,  ESUT,  and Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Professor Christian Nwachukwu Okeke. 

The President of the Class, tagged THE UNIQUE PIONEERS,  Sir Phil  Emeka Chinwuba announced this in Enugu at a ceremony in honour of Prof Okeke 

Sir Chinwuba said the group was not happy with the management of UNIZIK, Awka for disrespecting the Pioneer class,  stressing that the administration had refused to recognise their contributions and had also downgraded the class GPA despite making representations to the institution. 

He described the group as worthy forebears of Unizik having produced judges, Senior Advocate of Nigeria and Kings Council in Canada,  professors and Dean’s, Faculties of law,  Godfrey Okoye University Enugu,  Professor Gozie Ogbodo and Enugu State University of Science and Technology.

In an address,  the Chairman,  Council of Legal Education in Nigeria Chief Emeka Ngige announced that the council had sanctioned some  universities for violating the regulations of the organisation by either closing the law programmes or barring them from admitting students for five years .

Chief Ngige frowned at the shortage of Teachers in public tertiary institutions in the country and suggested that the study of law should be made a second degree programme. 

Responding,  Prof Christian Okeke expressed gratitude to the class of 1989 for honouring him, stressing that the action would encourage other law lecturers to contribute more to the training of legal practitioners. 

In a vote of thanks,  the Dean Faculty of Law,  Godfrey Okoye University Enugu,  Professor Gozie Ogbodo described Professor Okeke as a mentor and patriot who worked tirelessly for the success of legal education in Nigeria and overseas. 

Professor Ogbodo expressed gratitude to those who made the event a success, pointing out that the class of 1989 would remain good ambassadors of their institution. 

The Vice-Chancellor,  Godfrey Okoye University Enugu Reverend Father Professor Christian Anieke was represented at the event by the Registrar of the university,  Dr Nnamdi N.S Ene.

Godfrey Okoye University Radio 106.9 FM launched in 2014 as a campus radio station and began operation on the 21st of October, 2015 through the effort of our formidable Vice Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Dr. Christian Anieke supported by the Senate of the University to serve as a broadcast medium to inform, educate, entertain and enlighten the host community and the general public.
